How to Make Cute Christmas Gift Tags

  • 5 min reading time

In today’s blog, we’ll explore how to create adorable Christmas gift tags. We’ll cover four different designs: the ornament tag, the 3D bow tag, the reindeer tag, and the Santa tag. Let’s dive in!

Ornament Tag

We’ll start with the simplest tag, the ornament tag. For this project, I’ll be using Waffle Flower’s Classic Frames Die and Classic Holiday Sentiment Stamp Set.

Prepare the Paper: Temporarily adhere the stitched circle die to a piece of J.J. Bolton’s Christmas Stripes paper. Since I want these tags to be double-sided, I’ll cut another circle right under the first die cut to adhere them together, ensuring they show the same striped colors.

Create the Tab: The little tab die is from the Santa Tag Die. Cut the tab out of silver foil paper and fold it in half. Add some tape runner to adhere the two halves together.

Assemble the Tag: Place a bunch of tape runner on one circle, place the tab on top, and then add the other circle on top, making the tab look like an ornament cap. Die-cut a smaller stitched circle out of white cardstock for stamping.

Stamp the Sentiment: Place the A2 cardstock with the negative cut-out circle into your Mini Misti, pop the circle in the open space to hold it in place, and stamp a sentiment from the Classic Holiday Sentiments Stamp Set using Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide Ink. Adhere the sentiment circle to one side of the tag.

Finish the Tag: Thread a piece of twine through the top, tie it into a knot, and trim the tails. This cute little tag is perfect for a gift or even as a tree ornament.

3D Bow Tag

Next, let’s create the 3D bow tag using Waffle Flower’s 3D Easy Bows Die and the Santa Tags Die.

Cut the Pieces: Cut the large bow and the scallop tag background out of white pearl paper from Memory Box’s foil paper pad. Cut J.J. Bolton’s Christmas Stripes paper in half to make two A2 panels, then cut the inner tag die out of the striped paper.

Stamp the Sentiment: Cut another scalloped rectangle out of plain white cardstock for stamping. In your Mini Misti, stamp “Merry and Bright” in Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide and “To and From” in black amalgam ink from Gina K.

Assemble the Tag: Adhere the striped rectangle to the pearly white scallop paper, flip the tag over, and apply tape runner to the back. Line up the back scallop and place it on top of the tape runner to create a sturdy tag. Punch a hole through the layers using a We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile and add reinforcers.

Create the Bow: Bend the two sides of the bow back, interlock the cuts, fold up the tails, and tuck them inside the bow loops. Wrap the long tab around the center of the bow, securing it with a tape runner. Add foam tape to the back of the bow and adhere it to the tag.

Finish the Tag: Double up some twine, thread it through the punched hole, and knot it to create a looped knot. This tag looks fantastic on a simply wrapped present.

Reindeer Tag

For the reindeer tag, we’ll use the Waffle Flower Be a Reindeer Die.

Prepare the Pieces: Cut the reindeer out of craft and white cardstock. For a foil nose, cut a small square of foil and place it over the nose, then run it through your die-cut machine.

Stamp the Sentiment: Cut a scallop tag out of white cardstock for the sentiments. Stamp the sentiment in Pine Needles Distress Oxide Ink and the “To and From” in Gina K black amalgam ink.

Assemble the Tag: Cut the front of the tag out of Waffle Flower’s Half Half Christmas Dots paper and adhere the stamped white scallop tag to the back. Cut the tab with the holes out of a scrap of the same dot screen paper, fold it in half, add adhesive, and adhere it inside the two scallop tags.

Assemble the Reindeer: Cut the antlers off the dark brown reindeer and adhere the inner ear pieces from the white reindeer to the craft reindeer. Adhere the antlers and a small piece of brown cardstock behind the reindeer eyes. Attach the red foiled nose and adhere the reindeer to the tag.

Finish the Tag: Double up the twine and thread it through the hole. This tag, with its cute foiled nose, is sure to bring a smile.

Santa Tag

Finally, let’s create the Santa tag using the Waffle Flower Santa Tag Die.

Prepare the Pieces: Cut two scalloped rectangles, one in Half Half Dots and one in white for stamping. Cut one rounded rectangle out of red Half Half Dots and one out of white for Santa’s beard.

Create the Beard: Place the beard die over the white rounded rectangle and cut. Adhere the beard to the red tag, which represents Santa’s suit.

Create the Belt: Die-cut the belt from black cardstock and adhere it to Santa’s suit. Die-cut the belt buckle from gold foil cardstock and adhere it.

Assemble the Tag: Adhere the Santa layer to the scallop layer. If needed, cut and adhere a clean beard on top. Cut the tab out of gold cardstock, fold it in half, add adhesive, and adhere it inside the two layers.

Stamp the Sentiment: Stamp the sentiment and “To and From” on the back panel in Gina K black amalgam ink. Add a tiny tree stamp in Evergreen Bough Distress Oxide Ink.

Finish the Tag: Double up some gold metallic baker’s twine, thread it through the hole, and knot it at the top. This Santa tag is easy to assemble and looks delightful.

Conclusion

These steps provide a quick and easy way to make your own specialty Christmas tags. Whether you choose the ornament, 3D bow, reindeer, or Santa tag, each design adds a personal touch to your holiday gifts. Happy crafting!
